Simple to make: I use a small sled and make the cut about a 1/16 short of the z depth, then sand to remove the ring you can cut about 8 at a time.

The Machine does a fine job after I use a wooden dowel in the cordless drill to chuck it up and spin the ring to finish sand.

I run a 3.5" x 7"x .6" hardwood board in a sled, draw a few circles in designer and select the 3/16 mill bit. No need for tabs if you set the depth less than the board thickness this will hold the parts together until I sand the waste off the bottom. Rings will just pop off and you can make a few at the time.

LiquidGuitars, Great Idea!!! OK, not being a jewelry collector (my wife is ;) ), what size do you make the rings to fit on most folks fingers? I mean I could measure my wedding band, but do you have any ideas?

What I did was to make a few sizes at the same time.. the large ring has a OD radius of .669" and ID radius of .345" center the cut in designer then move to place. I assign the 3/16 mill bit. The size will give you a large male finger@ .89" then just scale down for smaller sizes...

You can scale it up and add a 1/16" cut pass in the center for inlays. The size center radius is 1.270" using a 3/16" endmill. The inlay pass is set to .120" in z.
I use the 1/16 carving bit as I like the taper and can still set the z.

wow I had not even seen the outside of the band inlays. That is really nice. what kind of material is that in the inlays? Does it come that thin or did you cut it to 1/16?

Wow! what a novel idea. I will certainly be printing off this thread for future references.
