I emailed the guy at cw-parts.com (no reply) ... my question is what kit should I buy for my CW ... and what bit or bits would you recommend?

I have a model C

Thanks

I am not sure why you would want a rock chuck on a version C. It was designed for problems with version A and B machines. The Carve Tight in the Version C took care of those problems. Also you will lost the functionality of the longer bits if you ever buy version 2.0 of Designer.

You can not put the rock on a version C machine.
Without buying the old style head.

I wanted to use a head that had more bit options. If that is possible.

You could try one of these and put it in your CarveTight chuck. This would give you a lot of options.

Not without replacing the whole Truck. The Rock is designed to screw to the end of the Truck after removing the Quick Change.

The CarveTite on the "C" version is one solid piece from the flex to the CT... Nothing to screw off.....

You could use 1/2 inch bits in the CT.

What I do is either buy 1/2 inch shank router bits, use adapters like these http://www.amazon.com/Whiteside-6400-Steel-Router-Collets/dp/B0012JG9QM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386718037&sr=8-1&keywords=whiteside+router+collet or press 1/4 shank bits into carvetight adapters.

They tell you it can not be done, but you can buy 1/2" to 1/4" adapters and use any 1/4" bit in it. But here again using bits not specified by LHR in the CW is doing things with the CW at your own risk, to you and the machine.

I have a 1/4" Rock. Are there any options for long carving bits for it? Will pressing the long bits out of the CT adapter work?

I think it will work if you press the bits out. For the sake of the 1/2" Rock users, measure the distance from the bottom of the Rock to the bit plate when the truck is all the way up.

Thanks! Can you take a overall measurement of the bit without the adapter? I will cut some 1/4" rod to that same length and see if the clearance is OK.

Looks like about 3.6" from the picture.

The over all length is 9 cm (a little over 3.5") You also need a little more than 2.125" to go below the board surface.
