As simple as a gavel sound block is I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done to make it produce a louder or deeper sound when it is hit by the gavel. Perhaps a small hole on top which goes down half way thru the block & then comes out the side of the block? kinda like a laying down "L" shape in the block? Maybe that would send out the gavel sound when the block is hit? I know that the material the block is made of also pays a part... just trying to figure out a way to enhance the sound. I saw the guys in congress using the big gavel trying to either drown out the person speaking or trying to get order back & all he does is beat the block harder & harder. Just thinking out loud & wondering....

Look herw for some ideas - http://www.gavelstore.com/

I believe it all depends on the type of wood and the size of the gavel and sounding block.

Hollow out the bottom. Think drum!
