I recently completed a fly box using Bolivian Rosewood and could not have been any more impressed as to how clean the lines came out. I carved the same box using walnut and the lines are not crisp and are somewhat wavy. Is this normal or did something go wrong? Anyone else have luck with walnut?

Thanks

I often use walnut with no problems.

I wonder if my bit is getting dull then.

How hard is rosewood then? How many hours did and does the bit have on it now then. And lastly what is the quality of bit and how many flutes? Definitely have to keep in mind those things when it comes to bits.

Rosewood is very hard. I have probably less than 50 hours on this bit and it is one I purchased from Carvewright.

I carve just about everything out if sapele. A little harder and holds carves like nobodys business. Thats why I do my pm's every 150 and keep a close eye on my bits. You can tell alot just by listening to it. If its screaming its telling you something. When I carve nothing but oak I usually change around 125, with sapele about every 100. If that helps.

I haven't carved it but it's a beautiful piece of wood, and it is hard wood and expensive..{ROSEWOOD}

I love the look of Rosewood, but it is really expensive. So far the nicest wood I've carved.65041
