Thanks John, you should recognize those.

Where those done all with MOI? Or do you still normally model in MOI and then use zbrush to touchup?

eelamb
10-01-2013, 06:56 AM
Doug unless it has something that needs to have sculpting done it is MoI3D. The lion, was ZB Puffed in MoI3d, the badge pebbles were in ZB (too many round dots), and the center was ZB. The rest was MoI3D. The attachment is an AI file I saved while making the badge.

EDIT: ZB is not really necessary most of the time. If you want to take the time to do sweeps, and lofts for the curved areas. ZB was only used on the the master peace officer for some roundness, yet could have been done in MoI3D too, it was just easier in ZB.

Nice work on the patterns Eddie. I have been carving the chair seats out of the pattern you did for me and it is coming out super. I bought a 3/16" carving bit and cut the carve time from 2:30 to 1:15, so 2 chairs down and 6 more to go :)

eelamb
10-01-2013, 03:08 PM
John, glad the seats are working out for you. So the seat depth did you keep it what I designed or change the depth? Should have thought of the 3/16 bit, it will save you a lot of time.

John is carving a complete set of chairs for a customer. I did the side (back) legs for him and the seat. I believe he has the legs done already. John I hope you show pictures before passing it off to the customer.

Hi Ed,
I left everything the way you designed it and the customer is very happy. I will be sure to post pictures, but he is in no hurry so we work on them a little at a time...I have a fairly long list of other projects, so busy enough ...

Those are really sweet Eddie! I wish I had half of the skill and talent you do..

Any ideas for a camping sign? I have been thinking about one for quite a while and when I get home I am too tired to get one started..

eelamb
10-01-2013, 04:52 PM
Thanks Steve, no ideal on camping signs, well I did make the paddlehead sign, and it would be a great one for camping.
For this sign, you or anyone else will have to pm me with an email address. I will not post the pattern here.

EDIE: Doug, this one was all ZB, projection master, and sculpting, then sliced the back off in designer stl importer.

Another pattern I finished for a customer. Traced it in MoI3D, then extruded, and took into ZB for a little sculpting on the center section.

First image is from MoI3D, Second is taken from ZBrush, and third is a render of it is wood.

Hot off the MoI3dD program. I have wanted to try a chip carving, so this afternoon I did one. This is a repeating chip carving. I make just one corner, then copied it to the other corners to get what you see.

Another good one Eddie! Is this a raster or vector carve?

eelamb
10-09-2013, 08:06 PM
Thanks CNC and FLoyd. Floyd it will be a raster carve.
Here are images of a single tile and two tiles joined to make two wide.

eelamb

or do something like this with it. (I know the center pattern does not match but first one I happened to find.

Wish I had a fraction of the talent Eddie! Great work!

eelamb
10-10-2013, 08:35 AM
Zan29, the pen does not do a lot for MoI3D, but if you like it, go for it. I use 2 monitors, and a wacom pen tablet Graphite (mostly the pen in ZBrush).
Steve, thanks for the comment. You mentioned v carve pro, do you have aspire? I understand this type of chip carving is much easier in aspire or artcam. Doing this in MoI3D using sweep is time consuming to say the least.

SteveEJ
10-10-2013, 09:20 AM
No Aspire. I wish I did. VCarve Pro is pretty good.

AOK, It is like the commercials for windows software. It shows all the great things that can be done. But does not tell you about the thousands of dollars in software you have to buy to do it and the 2 years learning curve to use the software. Oh and by then the software is outdated. LOL

679386793967940Today was a good day in the ice and sleet. It provided me with a day to sit in front of the computer and make 55 new patterns. The new patterns are of the US Mint proof State Coins. Look under the "COIN (http://www.carveshare.com)" link. All the PTN files are there for download. I have carved the Texas coin and it made a great looking clock. ENJOY...

CW-HAL9000
03-03-2014, 10:40 AM
I want to give constructive criticism in that the coins need some cleanup work. Also the patterns seem to almost all be from the forum. I even saw one that I shared and I am not sure this is a good idea.

mormar3830 The people on this form have been down this road I do not think you moving the shared patterns that others have made to your site. You have 5 patterns that I have shared on your site. They are on this site for form members. Your site is open to anybody. If they want patterns from here they will become a member.

Just tried to download a coin to see how it looks in Designer but when I click on the download link a new window pops up showing what I believe is code. If I right click to try and save as it wants to come in as an HTML file. Am I doing something wrong?

eelamb
03-03-2014, 08:32 PM
Jay (mormar3830), Roger is right! Many have fought hard to get this site locked down where only registered members can download the shared patterns. By placing the patterns on your site, you have opened them up to the general public.

dehrlich
03-04-2014, 08:13 AM
I have two view points regarding this. First I agree that having patterns available to the general public is not a good thing. I didn't see anything I made, but I didn't look at everything and I'm not the best pattern maker anyway. BUT, the one good point is that it makes the patterns easier to find. I wish the stuff here on the forum was easier to find. With thousands and thousands of posts here it is difficult at best to finds stuff sometimes. Still, I think the author of the patterns or MPC's should be asked for permission before making them generally available.

Do a save as and change type to all files. Add .ptn to end of name will save fine.

Thanks for the comments. Tom, close but yours has the tapered veins, yet the outside is the same. I made a template for that section which will make it easier in the future to create one like it. (if I can remember where I saved it:D)

Eddie,

Yes I have seen a slow down of sorts on postings. It was a request a while ago, even before 2.xxx, that we also post screen shots of the designs being posted. Maybe this will be a reminded for all to try to do so!

eelamb
05-28-2014, 11:37 AM
Floyd, yes it has been a request from almost the beginning of the forum, to post images, so a person did not have to download the PTN or MPC file to view it. It is even more important now to do this. By not posting an image they are leaving out valuable members of this forum. I hope images will be posted along with the project and patterns files, and hope the forum continues to be a community effort.

Welcome back Eddie as Floyd and others have said. Your point on Forum members not providing a photo of what they are commenting/questioning here is well made and not a lot to ask for everyone's enjoyment and better/easier participation in the Forum. It not only makes it easier for Ver 1.187 users to see what is being discussed, but because we are probably all "visually oriented" as carvers, it helps us better understand the shapes and forms involved from Ver 1.xxx or Ver 2.xxx.

Take the time to add a photo or simple screen shot Folks and it will make the Forum better for All Hands.

69743 Thanks and now I'll step down off my soapbox.

Thanks Dave, I figured if I "talked" that long and did not offer a image then I'd get tarred and feathered by our colleagues.

Good point about Tapatalk Connie, which I forget a lot of our members use every day while out there making a living.
