Can someone tell me why this happens every time I use hardwood?? With pine, not problem!

What are we seeing here? A shift in the y between the carving and the cutout?

Exactly so do you have any idea???

If the shift happened during the cutout, I would suspect something slipped. The forces must have been to much. Dull bit, too deep a cut, loose y belt. Were you doing a max bit depth, mult pass cutout or was it a single pass?

How slick is the board? Did you use masking tape on the bottom? Have you checked head pressure recently?

Y Gear Box Bearings.... Dull Bit.... would be my top 2... Your asking the bit to work harder at the same feed rate as pine that is softer...

What Quality did you use...? For Hardwood I would use the Max BEST... Takes longer but cuts slower..

It was 3/4" walnut and cutting 1/8" at a time on ultimate setting and no masking tape which I will try next time. Thanks all!

That is aggravating .... Anyway,, Check all of the things listed below... Check the belt tension, head pressure, if board is sanded super fine,, tape it,,, Walnut usually is one of the best woods for carving ... Hmmmmmmmm ...
