Can someone explain when/why I'd use the 3/16 carving bit over the 1/16?
I've been using the 1/16 carving bit for years.

For carvings that have less detail and to shorten the carve time.

I just bought a 3/16" carving bit and should have bought it long ago. It is the perfect choice for certain carves that don't have intricate detail, but long carve time. I am doing some chairs and the seats were 2 1/2 hours in the "Draft" mode using a 1/16" bit, but now are 1 hour and 15 minutes using a 3/16" bit. Saving a lot of wear and tear on the machine as well....

You will need a collet/sleeve to size up to the 1/2" chuck if that is what you have...

What size rock. I use a 1/4 with a collet that reduces it from 1/4 to 3/16. Bought it from ron justice, the same place you get the rock. Also have a 1/2 rock for big bits.
