cut path tool

A noobie here, but I'm working on the tutorials and in the house number plate #4 tutorial I can't get the cut path to work, it won't darken or highlight or what ever you call it, in order for me to set it and continue on, it looks like all the lines are attached to each other, any idea on what I'm doing wrong? I tried to attach the file, hope it worked.

tried to look at the file it's done in the 2.002 format some of us don't have this format if you can put it in a 1.87 format more people could help you out thanks

In order for the cut path to light up, your path has to be a single closed path. Yours is made of separate parts. After edit - "select all", under the view menu "toggle non end points" will show you where the parts need to be connected. With the mouse, (and snap on) move one point on top of the other until you see a cross appear. They are now connected as one. (You have a extra line at the bottom which could be deleted.) When they are all connected, the cut out will light up.
