For as many years as I can remember I have lusted after a professional woodworking bench. I have made do with numerous benches I have made over the years, most of them using scavenged 2 x 4 lumber. As versatile as 2x4 construction is, it does not bring to the mind the word "craftsman". So, after researching and designing and redesigning for the last three years, I finally scraped enough cash together to purchase a couple of really good woodworking vises and a significant amount of very expensive lumber. Even so, I scavenged about two dozen shipping timbers from a constructions site and spent a number of hours and a set of planer blades cleaning it up, resulting in 8 clear oak and 10 poplar 4 foot long 4 x 4s that I planned to use for the base.

Unfortunately the past year has been rather eventful and I didn't have the time to devote to such a large project. But a couple of months ago all the "stars finally came into alignment". I had the lumber, I had the parts, I had the design, and I had the time. I am happy to say that my dream bench is finally complete. The reason I am posting this here is that I used my CarveWright to cut a Celtic like design in the legs and one stretcher. It really adds panache. The final result is very pleasing.

Veritas stuff is designed and sold by Lee Valley- one of the best companies in existence. You really have to check their site out... (and prepare to drool...)

The bench is stunningly beautiful. I love the split-top design and hybrid look. Very well done
