We have a Version C purchased in 2011. We are getting a message on the LED screen that says "jog", and we are getting one says "load bit" (We already have a 1/16" bit loaded). We have continued with the start process and have cut one piece. However, when we started it up again to cut another piece, the machine wouldn't start. On another occasion, the bit was inserted into the wood and the machine proceeded to go through carving the pattern, but the motor did not start and the bit did not turn. Has anyone had this type problem before or have any suggestions?

It sounds like your machine is set up with the "jog touch" on.

access the Configurations Menu , select the “0” (Options) key at the

CarveWright Main Menu
or use theup/down arrows to locate the menu and press ENTER. Use the

up/down arrowsto navigate to the following

5) Jog Touch (Off/On)
Setting this option to “On” configures the machine so that the user is

required to manually set the location of the bit tip for the surface find

operation. During the project setup, the machine will prompt the user

to jog the bit tip over the location on the workpiece that will serve as

the top surface for the project. This is particularly useful when there

are already features carved into the material that prohibit the

machine from automatically detecting the top surface of the material.

The default setting is Off, which allows the machine to automatically

find the top surface of the material.

On your "load bit" it sounds like the "bit plate" is not coming out all of the way for the bit to move down and touch it. Check for dirty Y rails, dust build up in the bit plate spring or an obstruction behind the Z motor preventing its travel all of the way over to push out the bit plate.

Thank you so much. We'll try that and let you know whether it helped us.

Finally got a chance to get back to the machine and search to find out if the Jog is on or off. Jog is already set to off. Now, you mentioned that there may be dust prohibiting the complete movement of the bit plate. Where is the bit plate? Is that that little piece on right that flicks out when the bit apparatus moves over and touches the bit to it?

Yes that is the bit plate. The Y truck actually pushes the plate out.

Now for your problems, if you can be a bit more descriptive about your problems. What was the machine doing when you got the message and what was the actual message on the display? The more information you can give will really help us out...

The bit plate is the swinging plate to the right. Always watch to make sure it swings out twice and the bit touches it twice. There are certain depth problems that result if the bit does not touch.

The jog is something different. If the jog to touch is set to (off) (the default), then you must have picked 3) jog to position instead of 1) center or 2) place on corner. After that choice, it will ask for the carving bit (to jog with) and then ask if you want to jog to center or jog to corner.

Jog will also pop up if you press STOP while it is trying to touch the board surface.

Although this may not be your problem I did expereince a problem with the y truck not traveling all the way across the rails and pushing out the bit plate...the problem was the two wires that extend up to the top cover switch on the same side as the bit plate. They were hanging out enough to interferre with the y truck and stop it from traveling far enough to push the bit plate out. I taped up the wires and now good to go. One more little inconvenience....
