All carvings are from the Carvewright Patterns library. I carved them into hard maple and used a 4 step finishing process of a sanding lacquer, tinted lacquer with "linen" paint, van dyke wiping glaze, and topcoat of satin lacquer. The carving times varied between 47 minutes to over 90 for the large carving of the vineyard scene on the back of my island. All carving were used on the optimal setting.

Dave,

That is outstanding! I love the glazing - yields a very nice "high-end" look to your cabinets!

Thanks for all the compliments. As you can probably tell, there was a lot of work that went into the construction of the kitchen. I mainly built it for my wife who has been begging for a custom kitchen for years. It was her idea to go for the Tuscan theme. Just like the cobblers kids that went without shoes, took 10 years of building others kitchens before I got around to ours.
Thanks again,
Dave Hebert

I would like to here more about your 4 step finishing process. It is beautiful. I'm sure your wife is very happy with the finished product 10 years in the making!

That is very nice. Something we have all thought of but you have actually done. (How many spousal points is that worth?)

Hey Roger, the sanding sealer, paint and topcoat were all sprayed. The glaze has to be done by hand which is very time consuming but the visual effects are pretty interesting.
