2 things.. First of all I have 2 carvewright machines and use them both constantly. I have however, had one problem at different times on both machines and am not sure why. With the board loaded, it checks measurements, asks for bit, etc. (again, i've used these for a few years) but when it's checking the bit it never fully dips down to touch anything and when it starts carving it's just spinning up in the air about an inch or two above the wood. Any thoughts on why that might be happening?

Secondly, and much more entertaining. Duck Dynasty is having a contest where you can vote on your favorite pic daily until the end of the month with the winner getting a walk on role to film a commercial to the new season. This is my father in law and he's a carbon copy of Si (in every single way!). He'd appreciate your vote Jack!

When the head is going down to touch something like the Bit Flag or the top of the board, the machine turns on a Servo Motor Current Sensing. At the first sign of an increase in motor current the head reverses directions as to lightly touch and to not smash the pointy end of the bit into the metal...

What can happen is the head hits a Speed Bump like a lump of sawdust on the rails or bearing OR a chunk of sawdust inside the rubber belt cogs. All look like the bit touching the bit plate... SO if the head hits a speed bump then that is telling the machine wrong info and you get what we call a Air Carve.

The No Mans Land between the upper and lower Z Truck Roller Bearing when the head it all the way up and all the way down, the hard to reach to clean area should be looked at...

PLUS open the back of the Z Motor Encoder and blow the dust out.
