Hello,

Here is a preview of the next Project of the Month (for MAY 2013)...The Wheelbarrow Decorative Plant Cart!
The Wheelbarrow Decorative Plant Cart project proves Spring has arrived! It’s not just for Spring, though - fill it up with your favorite seasonal silk plants or flowers to enjoy year-round. This charming wooden cart adds a nice decorative element to your deck, porch, entry foyer, or even as a centerpiece placed on a buffet or tabletop.

The project uses the 1/16" Carving Bit and the 1/8" Cutting Bit. No other bits are required.

The overall dimensions of the Wheelbarrow Plant Cart project are about 8½" x 9" x 17½" .

Main items you will need:
1) The Project Files (included):
• Handles_and_Supports.mpc
• Side_Panels.mpc
• Wheel.mpc

2) Boards with the following dimensions:
Handles and Supports: .75" x 9.2" x 25"
Side Panels: .75" x 6.25" x 26"
Wheel: .75" x 6" x 18"
(Do not use boards that are smaller than specified above unless using an appropriate jig.)

3) 1/8"and 5/8"diameter dowels, 1/2"-thick craft board or ply for 3 panels:
• two panels 0.5" x 3.75" x 5.5"
• one panel 0.5" x 5.5" x 7.5"
(cut these plain panels yourself - not an MPC)

4) Sandpaper, wood glue, clamps, stain and/or paint and clear finish

5) A Dremel-type rotary tool with assorted sanding wheels and bits to sand small details and speed up preparation for finishing.

Apply stain/paint and clearcoat of your choice. The sample prototype has been left natural and is made from Select Pine.

Nice project! Is there a method to change the weave pattern on the side pieces?

Nice project! Is there a method to change the weave pattern on the side pieces?

Thank you!

Yes, you could delete the actual weave patterns and leave the drill holes and outlines (i.e., the Cut Paths), then add your own carve regions, patterns, text, or whatever you wish!

I broke my 1/8th cutting bit :(. Don't know how this happened, but will be checking everything out on the machine this morning. I was carving Cabbage Bark wood at the time and its very hard.

Question, was going to carve the wheelbarrow this morning, but wanted to know if I can use the 3/16th cutting bit in its placement. And how to I change it? When I bring up the pattern of the wheelbarrow sides, I do not see where it has the 1/8 carving bit selected, so I can change it to the 3/16th.

Help anyone. I am down in Belize for another 2 months and not sure how I can get a 1/8th bit till I get back home.

OK, I double click on the drill holes and change it from 1/8th to 3/16th. I got that, but how do I do the outside cut-outs, like around the wheels? Unless of course they are being done with the 1/16th carving bit, but I do not think so.

With the cut out selected click on the saw blade button.

OK, figured it out. select the cut out tool, deselect it and then reselect it and choose 3/16th.
