I just ordered a 1/16" cutting bit from Carvewright. Not cheap.

Anyone know if the cutter, in eBay auction 130876407128 would work in our machines?
I'd only be taking very small cuts .1" deep per pass, in cast acrylic.

I have been using the 1/16th tapered bits from drillman for the last year. They are 4 flute updraft and carve very well. That being said, you must load them in the chuck adapter correctly to avoid any errors.

Is there a web site for drillman?

I bought from drillman on ebay, as I'm in Canada. Fast and reasonable priced shipping

That is where I get my 1/16" carving and the 1/8" cutting bit, drillman. Less than $2 shipping, and about $10 lower in cost. Works great in the rock, and 4 flute I feel gives a better cut.

Gang, 1/16 cutting...not carving.
Read my original post.
I'm looking for a cutting bit, not a carving bit.

What chuck are you using?

Are you talking about a 1/16" dia. end mill, want 2 flute or 4 flute, and end cutting (being able to plunge)? I have a few some where in my machinist tool

That bit will work if you can hold it. It has four flutes which I would not like to use on acrylic. Two flutes work better on acrylic. Chip clearance it a concern. The ones I use are more like:

I'm cutting out templates in acrylic.
I don't know whether to use 2 flute or 4 flute.
I imagine I'll need to perform a plunge, for my initial entry into the cast acrylic, and each time it moves to a new shape, and drops into the material again.

I'll be cutting 2D shapes, out of 3/16" thick cast acrylic. Curved lines, and such.
I'll use dbl sided tape, and tape it to a wood backer board.
I've got a Rock Chuck.

I would use a two flute 1/8" bit with a 1/2" LOC. (Just like the one I showed in the ER adapter.) I would be worried about a 3/16" deep cut with four flute and only 1/16" diameter. (Also, I would be worried about the jerky cut out routine of 1.186 breaking the 1/16" bit.)

You would also need more passes to be safe with a 1/16" bit. Three passes to safely cut the acrylic.

I would do two passes with the 1/8" bit pictured and feel safe.

Edit: I you are going to use double sided tape to hold the acrylic, you will not need tabs and so use the bit path instead of the cut path. It is much smoother in 1.186.

Anyone know if there is anyplace in Canada to buy bits that work in the Carvewright . I use the carvetight bits. When you order from Carvewright it costs $45 in shipping which is rather expensive.

Consider using the ER11 adapter. See previous post.

Duncan, I've been buying more and more of my bits on Amazon. Does that work for you?

I do not think Amazon ships such things to Canada. The ER11 adapters are on

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/281142871145?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

With the ER11 adapter, you can use bits with 1/8",3/16", or 1/4" shanks.

Have you tried ebay for your bits. I buy from drillman1 on ebay. He has both 1/16 bull nose and 1/8 straight. Plus they are 4 flute, which I feel carve better.
