Haven't posted for quite some time but I have done these three projects over the last couple of months. Two project are finished and the third one is still a work in progress. The first is a Sigma Chi Paddle carved in cedar and will be finished by the client (thanks Eddie for the pattern, it turn out great). The second finished one is sea related objects, patterns from VD3D that I wanted to see how they carved so put them all on one sign. 6136561366613676136861369613706137161372The last and biggest project... still in progress is the animals. It will be 3-layers thick and framed out when finished (1st photo, next 3 are the individual panels). Now I just need to decided to just stain or to stain and paint. There is a second front piece carve shown, last picture shown, that just needs a back panel...this one will only be two carves deep.

All look GREAT, Sharon!

The Deer/Forest Scene...that's my favorite! I've had something very similar to that on my "project idea" list for a few years, so I'm particularly glad to see one of the "wood working stars" (you) use the "dimensional layering" technique. You do it proud!

The layered idea is fantastic. I never thought to try that.
It reminds me of some old Chinese ivory carvings I have seen. Not the motif of course, but the final effect.

OH BOY! Sharon you have really outdone yourself! And talk about mixed emotions... stain or paint... First of all I would love to see them in stained highlights. With a Glazed chestnut horse, there is nothing prettier. But with "YOUR" painting skills?! It would be a crime not to! So I guess there are two choices here. Stain and paint. or Carve it twice! One for stain and one for paint! I can not wait to see the finished products!! You always raise the bar for us!

I want to thank everyone for all the wonderful comments. Yes, I've been contemplating just staining the 3-part project. Then, when I get the background done for the 2-part project I plan painting that one. But I will share with you the final product when I get it all together. For a long time I've been thinking I'd like to do something like this to the pattern of the cowboys sitting on the fence (sorry I can't remember the gentleman that made the pattern that is in the pattern department). Can't you just see it with horses on the back panel and the cowboys on the front panel. Or cows in the background. Ideas, Ideas.

Thanks kcc2012, Bigtyme, and dltccf for the encouragement. I'm a little wary to put that first brush of stain on the project but once started it is going to be fun to see how it turns out. Need to clean up the shop tomorrow and then it's going to be full force ahead.

What can I say that has not been expressed. Simply brilliant concept and execution. You'd make Norbert very proud and I can't wait to see the finished scenes. Do you see these in a shadow box type setting? Again beautiful

Tom, jaroot, Capt. Bruce, and Stan I appreciate your comments. Denny the trees are also VC3D patterns. They are his Maple and Hardwood tree patterns....stretched until just the trunks showed (a little of the leaves also). Stan I would love to see the Cowboys On Fence carved in this manner. Hope you can get it carved and posted soon. I didn't get out in the shop today as we spent the day trimming trees....but tomorrow is another day.

61446 I just couldn't bring myself to leave it plain. Used W-based pine and maple stains, gel stains and Golden's Fluid Acrylic paints. Just need to clear coat and start assembling all the pieces.

Hi Sharon,

I was just talking to Robert Dages about an hour ago - we were both "bragging" about your wonderful work and looking forward to seeing that finished! My goodness - it is a show-stopper! I hope you will be able to bring it (or ship ahead) to this year's CarveWright Extraordinary Exhibition & Conference!

The forest scene belongs in an art gallery with a hefty price tag. It's amazing. You really should consider at least entering it in an art show.

WoW! Maybe a pdf "step be step" process in how it was created? Also, like the length of carving for each board piece. Looks like a NEW level in what the CW can make. Of course Imagination & Ingenuity still being the key to it all.

Once again I thank all of you for looking and for the nice comments. I have enjoyed putting this project together. Someday I'd like to use something other than pine for my projects. Possibly then I might be more inclined to leave thing natural. Right now I need to make time to get out in the shop and carve the background for my two piece project. It will be slightly different from this one but using most of the same patterns. Thanks again.

Hi Sharon, Wow! You've got everyone buzzing. Hadn't logged on in awhile but Tom said I had to look this up. He is right! So fun watching it happen. Spring is in the air and Sharon's in the woodshop again! Some pretty special things are happening. You are like the rock star and the CW is your guitar! Pam
