Hello All,

Here is a sign I delivered last night and installed.

As you enter the office from the front door it is in eyes view.

Dr. Deb was there and just went on about it.
Before I left she stated that she needed to give me a big hug.

Dr.Deb said that her and Dr. Joan did not know anything about this sign.
I told her that was the plan. It was my surprise to them. A gift they did not know about.

It was quite a surprise for me, due to all the staff was in the room going on about the sign as I put it on the wall.
One of the most rewarding carving projects that I have done.

Robert... you are one "dog-gone" good guy. Can we say your business has gone to the dogs?

I would make a guess that it is French Polish Method using a shellac-loaded pad on maple.

See? Robert's finishes can "fool the eye"! (in a very good way!)

Several coats of Polyurethane on MDF with good quality steel wool in between?

It does look very nice and I too would like to know how you achieved it Robert.

Alan,
I will tell you it is not the French Polish Method. I did a lot of the French Polish when I worked and built furniture.

What I did with the bone was to finish sand it with 220 grit.
I then brushed on a color paint called Golden Brown and wipped it off so a bit of the wood grain would show,
yet not as much as if you would see with a light stain.

I then started to coat the bone with Krylon Matte Finish. I lay on three coats then I sand with 320 grit and wipe with a
Norton Microfiber Cloth. Then two more coats of the Matte. Sand with 400 and wipe and coat, sand again 400 wipe and one more coat.
There are times when I will do a 600 grit before the final coat.
It is just one of those calls you make when your viewing the finish.

On the horse sign I posted last week I used Valspar Clear Sealer SATIN.

The Krylon is really used for in door project were the Valspar is Interior or Exterior.

If you want to pull the grain pattern out more you can put on a couple coats of Gloss then go over it with the Matte
ande it soffens the the look but it will have pulled the grain pattern out more.

I hope that answers your questions.
Anything else?
