View Full Version : Dot-Matrix Technique

I noticed on the forum about 2 or 3 weeks ago somebody did a carve that looked like a Dot-Matrix printout. I believe it carved almost to the pixel level. But, after it was carved and stained it had an eye catching appearance to it. I was wondering if anybody else remembers that post and the technique used. I have been looking for it and have not been able to come across it again.

Thanks,
Bob

I did see that one, but the one I'm looking for kinda looks more like a "dot-matrix" print. They did the carve, used wood filler, sanded, and then stained it. I just don't remember how they got the image from start to finish (before the filler). I'm trying to get the same "dot-matrix" look.

Thanks

I recall that one too, not sure where it is. But Gimp has the newsprint function to convert to dots as per the link in post #4.

I did read those both and do have GIMP 2.8. But, the one that was posted I don’t think it had third party software involved(?) (could be wrong about that part)

If you printed out a pic on a dot-matrix printed in draft mode it would have that appearance to it.

I PMed PCOutlaw and confirmed that he was looking for these:

I had removed them from my site a few days ago thinking nobody would look for them but they are back now.

I had tried to do a technique that used strips of raster color to create a halftone effect that appears as a line halftone but designer doesn't let the image carve unless it is at least 3 pixels wide. I haven't done any more testing to see if I could get something to work.
