Would say most likely the power supply.
But check to make sure the card is fully installed, also check circuit you have the machine plugged into is good as well.

Not much info provided, but if the LCD screen is blank, try adjusting the contrast - the little black button looking knob, rotate it left or right to see if anything happens.

If you can provide any other additional info that would help.

Sounds like the power supply, you can get a replacement from LHR. (Carvewright) $195, but you get some back if you send the old part in.

Do you know what version the machine is? A, B, C?

Also what version of software is he running?

Well dad had it apart today. plugged it in wile it was on its back and it turned on and seemed to work. So he turned it off put it back together turn it upright turned and turned it on. It came on for about 3 seconds the out it went. So he is ordering a new power supply. I just hope that is what's wrong with it.

Look at the L2 coil on the power supply,
Many times one of the coil leads breaks and when you put the machine on its back it makes contact and works.

Yes, that is how I found the L2 coil problem in 2007... Machine was laying on it's back or muffler and the LCD came on when I turned on the power. Placed it upright and the display and machine went dead.... GRAVITY pushes the coil back into the hole making contact.

You could take the pictures and the board to a TV repair shop and the tech could re solder the wires to the L2 coil. The coil is in the output circuit of the 5 volts DC and is just wire wound around a metal ferrite core. Like a Fuse when the L2 wire snaps the machine goes dead. It will be snapped BELOW the Surface of the board where it is bent over UNDER the board and Soldered. In my pictures you can see the pen pushing the coil and see the top wire come out of the hole slightly as it is SNAPPED below the top surface of the board.

How the coil works is the Windings around the core pass the DC power. But any AC NOISE on the wire like that Whine or Popping in a 1970 Car Radio.... The AC Noise or Alternating Current has expanding and collapsing magnetic fields as it moves through the turns of the L2 Coil. What happens is the Magnetic Fields MIX with each other and some CANCEL each other OUT... The Result is CLEANER POWER with less noise... You see the ball on the end of Lap Top AC Power Supply Wires, that is the same thing, a Coil to eliminate NOISE....

The FIX is to UN Solder the Coil and Strip FRESH Wire and insert it into the holes and re solder. You can TEST if the Coil is BAD by soldering a Jumper Wire between the 2 bottom contacts of the coil since it is already a SHORT CIRCUIT of a winding of copper wire. JUST A TEST... It takes the Broken Wire out of the circuit... Don't leave it... The NOISE on the Power could cause Computer Problems...

Good Luck,

AL
