View Full Version : Dovetails and Boxjoints Possible?

I can maybe justify a Carvewright - if I can avoid buying a Leigh, Akeda, or similar jig.

My search came up with one post saying Dovetails can't be done.

I understand why we can't use a Dovetail bit.

But why not use either a BCT125 Cutting Bit (Or maybe the BCR006 Carving bit) to hog-out edge patterns corresponding to pins and tails?

The pattern - it would seem - could have tails/pins that are randomly
sized - and randomly spaced..

As an alternate to hogging, might 'cut path' work for dovetails and boxjoints?

One cut following the Pins/Tails layout - break off the waste at the tabs... or willl the waste pieces not have tabs - separate - and jam?

What am I missing?

Thanks for your help.
Chris

Round corners instead of nice crisp ones.

According to the FAQ, dovetails are in the design phase. I don't know if it can be pulled off though.
