Has anyone made desk plaques with thier machine? I am assuming these would be carved as two seperate peices and then joined. I was talking to Robert Mulgrew earlier and he had the great idea that this could be a great use for those 3.5" scraps we keep cutting off the end of our boards if a jig were made for them. Any thoughts?

58793I made these quite some time back.
I put a 5 degree cut on the bottom side and they set fine.
I used 3/4" wood.

Here is one I made for my VA doctor at Christmas time. Made from Walnut. I put a 15 degree bevel on the bottom of the standing part and attached with screws to the base. Just kind of free formed the parts, mainly because the medical symbol (never remember the name) had to be bigger to get the detail and looked odd just square.

How do you put the bevel on the bottom? It looks great!

I just adjusted the fence on my jointer. With a 1/32" cut it only took about 4 passes.

I use a stationary disk sander. I guess you could even use a table saw.
