Got a phone call from a friend asking if I could make up a cheese board for a family member- this is about 9 x 18

Easy peasy on the Carvewright- 1 bit only (60 degree v-bit) and then cut the CW marked outline out with my bandsaw. For the feet I attached 4 rubber door bumpers. To fill the writing in I filled the carve with black colored epoxy. The finish is matted on shellac (to cut down on blotching) then green scrubbied down followed up by mineral oil.

Thanks for looking-hope you guys don't mind me posting so many simple projects-
Lawrence

Cool man. I can't tell if the black colored epoxy filled in the text portion of the cheese board. How about a little more insight Lawrence

Nice board, I would also like to know more about the epoxy filling?

Sure- Yep, the epoxy fills in the carve completely (actually overfills it) and then I hand plane it down and then sand the piece. It almost looks like the writing/osprey is "written" onto the wood as it blends in pretty seamlessly.

To do this, use longer length curing (60 m) for the original pour. I use black pigment (this) as a LITTLE goes a very long way (the dye for this job was about 3 drops worth in about a nyquil serving of epoxy)

I used system 3 epoxy and then planed it down. When you are done there will be little "pinholes" in the epoxy. I mix a TINY amount of 5 min epoxy/dye and then follow up by filling the pinholes with a toothpick. You then sand the whole thing down and finish as normal. It makes for a pretty cool effect IMHO

Hope this helps,
Lawrence
