Latest work I just completed. This is 2 of a set of 4 badges I finished for them.
Badge numbers blurred intentionally

Each badge is 10.5 wide by about 16.5 tall.

Re-affirms why I don't like to paint, lol.

Chief,

What GREAT work and detail. I am sure they will be prominently displayed and enjoyed by thousands.
Would you mind advising you choice of gold and silver paint?

Thx de PJS

Those came out great Chief. The paint job came out just fine and looks really good. I made one for a friend (edited out name) as a 2 sided plaque that he has at his desk. He was a volunteer Fireman as well as in Dallas PD. I just used different stains. I'm going to try my next one using paints as you have.

Chief those really look good and I totally agreed with the painting sentiment. From the looks of it though you definitely have the talent if not the "Want Too". Thanks for sharing.

Here is the gold and silver I use when doing this type of detail work. I sealant is with rust-oleum painters touch satin clear. It seems to be paint friendly and not harsh like lacquers.

They are amazing. . . .Great job Chief!

I am still learning the basics of carving and my finishes have just been simple stains and clear gloss. If I had to finish your carving, I wouldn't know where to begin. Would you mind sharing how you approached finishing the badges?

Thanks

Thanks

First I pick the stain color to use for the background.

The rest comes from the badge color itself.

Start working from the inner most part of the carving and work my way out. Stop for each color to dry before beginning the next.

When done I prefer the satin finish over a gloss.

I am just an upstart when it comes to painting. There are several very talented painters on the forum that make me look silly, lol.

1/16 carving bit, optimization: best, optimal carving setting. Each badge took 51/2 hours to carve
