Safety Cover problem

When I lift the safety cover the machine used to stop. Now the bit stops turning but the head keeps moving back and forth as if it were still cutting. Any suggestions on what went wrong?

There are two switches on the cover. The one controling the function you are asking is on the left side or key board side if facing the machine. Check out theft left switch .

Thanks for the info. I checked the machine after removing the project. Although the bit and the carving head finally stopped the belt did not. Where is this micro switch hidden? Has the safety design changed over the years, this one was purchased in 08?

It is not really a good practice to use the clear cover as a normal stop or pause. It is more of a safety, I need to stop the machine now function. With the current going through the switches, by lifting the cover they will arc and burn out the switches or worse. By pressing the stop button once, it tells the computer to pause/halt all process. The computer will tell the shut everything down.

Nope no change in design. Keyboard side switch tells the machine the cover is open stops the process and the non keyboard switch is to complete the circuit to the cut motor.

Live and learn. Maybe I burned out the switch as I always used the cover to stop the machine to clean it out. I will try another project and see if the Stop button still works. Thanks.

Is there a way to replace the switch or must that be done by the factory?

I (http://www.carvewright.com/assets/service/Service_instructions/CarveWright_service_replace_cover_switch.pdf) posted some time ago about a completely compatible switch that is sealed against dust and moisture unlike the original. I had two factory switches fail within weeks, but this one is working well going on three years now.

thank you for the info just ordered some Allied Electronics, their p/n 908-1197. It's a sealed Cherry switch (Cherry p/n DC1C-A1AA),

After a further cleaning I found out the switch was not bad, just plugged up. I am glad since the instructions for replacing them are 12 pages long.

Posted last night that a stuck left cover switch was un common... WOW... Proved wrong again... LOL...
