I Seem to have had a board sensor and a board tracking sensor fail at the same time. Has anyone else out there had this issue and if so, what was the cause?

Thanks

It would help if you would give some more information. What were you doing, what error messages if any did you get, what problems with the project (faulty cutout, poor quality, misshapened, etc), etc.

Meanwhile go here: http://www.carvewright.com/support-page/troubleshooting-guide/troubleshooting-the-carvewright/ and look up any error messages that you may have gotten.

IF you had another error and did not turn OFF the machine and back on, sometimes the machine gives strange errors... So first try turning off and back on....

Next... Press the Options, then select Sensor Data on the keypad than go through each....

To test the board tracking sensor, select it on the list and rotate it and look for the numbers to change. Seldom do they fail....

Next place a board in the machine and a sheet of white paper on the boards... Copy paper works well.... Select Board Sensor and with the head cranked down and the head over the paper, a reading of about 150 is GOOD.... a 90 could be a dirty lens....or dust in the inside of the sensor...

Tell us more about your machine... That will help...

And you could have posted this in the Troubleshooting section... This is the TEST section.... Hopefully someone will move it...

Plus do a search on the LHR site and find and read the Tips and Tricks.... Lots of GOOD stuff to KNOW...

WELCOME !!!

If you use high pressure air to blow the sawdust out of the machine between carvings you could have forced sawdust inside the board sensor. Crank the head up almost as far as it will go and use low pressure air (30 pounds or less) to blow around the board sensor on the bottom of the Z truck. If that doesn't work remove the board sensor and inspect it for sawdust inside the plastic window.

For the board tracking sensor fail, while the head is still up almost as far as it can go, lift the end of the compression roller on the LCD display side either by hand or inserting a board and cranking the head down on it. A 2 by 4 on edge works pretty good. Using low pressure air, blow out the end of the roller on both sides of the rubber washer. Repeat the process for the other roller. If this doesn't work, remove the left panel of the machine (the end with the LCD display). This will expose the compression roller stop and the sensor. Repeat the process above.

That is a good point... The Roller must go un compressed to wake up the board sensor... So if the board in measuring on one direction it waits for the board to come out from under the roller and the computer knows that the edge of the board is about 3.5 inches from the end.... IF the Roller Resting Plate has layers and layers of fine sawdust build up on it then the roller will drop but not far enough to let the small micro switch fall into the slot. Hence never let the computer know if the roller is released...

A quick test... Crank down on a board and look at the sensor data. It will show compressed then crank up the head and watch the LCD change to un compressed...

Here are some pictures of the 2 screws holding the resting plate of the roller after removing the keypad side of the machine. Careful of damaging the wires on the keypad. And some pictures of removing the back of the board sensor to clean the inside of the window and sealed with masking tape.
