As some of you know, I am retiring from the Air Force in about a year and we've just purchased our new home for a 9-month to 1-year trip around the USA which will begin in November of 2013.

http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u313/ldr_klr/1-2.jpg

Along the way we plan to stop in lots of educational sites (and LOTS of national parks), but we also plan on plenty of stops at woodworking "meccas"- the short list I've come up with already includes several weeks at Roy Underhill's school as well as visiting Highland Woodworking, Colonial Williamsburg, the North Bennet Street School, the college of the Redwoods and several other woodworking locations (and of course a stop at LHR!). Considering the reception I have gotten to the idea on other forums, I will probably be also meeting and visiting other woodworkers along the way.

By using hand tools, base woodworking shops etc. I hope to continue using my Carvewright while we are traveling. It should fit nicely into the trunk of the compact SUV we will be buying as a "toad" to pull behind our motorhome. In addition to my hand tools I hope to bring a mini-lathe, a scroll saw, and my festool saw and vac if I can figure out how to squeeze them in :)

Does anyone here have any interest in viewing a blog about woodworking "on the road" -- Visiting other woodworker's shops, stores, schools, museums, shows, and conventions along the way? The blog would have a finite beginning (the prep starting very soon) and ending (we move to England after the trip is over... winter of 2014)

Please let me know if this is something you'd be interested in.

Missouri has gas for $3.07 and Grizzly has a really big store in Springfield . We could be your lookout for woodworking and tool stores.

Thanks all- I'll send a link once I get it up and running and there is some content on there. My goal is to keep the page SIMPLE... nothing bugs me more than blogs/pages where I can't find the forest for the trees (so to speak)

So far, this is what I have

yup- I was concerned when I saw that yesterday, but the name of the business is "Willy's woodshop" so I got lucky there.

I locked up www.woodshoponwheels.net (http://www.woodshoponwheels.net) for three years last night woodshoponwheels.com (http://www.woodshop.com) is already taken by godaddy and I'm not using them)

The site is not ready for use yet though- feel free to look at it though and I'll certainly announce when it is up and running.

Count ME in too... A Facebook Page would be GREAT too....

I would contact American Woodshop with Scott Phillips and His Wife and Rough Cut with Tommy Mac... The On the ROAD Woodworking being the BIG Interest with the Military Connection, Living the DREAM... Both might have you and your Family on the Shows.

IF you had the Rotary Jig a side Trip to the "Duck Call" Guys and you might find yourself on the TV Show too...

And check the Wood Shows too in your "Flight" plan...

Good Luck,

thanks for the words of support again all- we are definitely pressing forward with the blog- I'll be making "visit plans" when we get a little closer and am grateful for all of your generous offers!

We've spent the last couple of days getting to know what will be our home a year from now... we filled it up for the first time today (don't ask... ) and got it weighed (9 tons). We also got some cleaning in and I learned what buttons do what.... Here are some pics we got

I'll be sure to let y'all know when the blog up and running-

Thanks again,

Great concept Lawrence and we'll follow your WOW blog with great interest. When your Odyssey brings you here to Highland Woodworking we need to share those several beers we discussed along with a steak on the Kinney deck overlooking the river. We'd be honored to host you here in Atlanta and by then I too will be retired at long last from FEMA.

Where will you be located in England when it all concludes? Looking forward to meeting you in person.
Fair winds and safe travels my friend.
