Hey I found a trick with Designer. Many patterns I make in STL format are large after imported, 1 to 2 megs. If I import them, place it on a board, then group it, and click make pattern. Designer does some magic. The pattern is saved about two third the original size without losing detail. One I did tonight was 2.4 Meg when imported, did this trick to it and it is now 660K when exported as PTN file.

Maybe others will find this usefull.

Maybe LHR can look at the code and use it in STL importer, or other importers.

Maybe I did not say this right, so here are instructions to reduce the ptn file size. I suspect this will also make a difference in carve time with it being smaller.

here is a detail of it.

Import stl file a into designer
Go to favorites, and save the ptn file to your hdd
Look at the file size you saved. (mine was 2.4MG)
Place the ptn on a board and group it in designer
Click on the group, and click make pattern, then save to the favorites
Export this file to your hdd
Look at the file saved, it is a LOT smaller. Mine was 640K after doing this.

Nice trick to make the patterns smaller when exported.

Bert and others this will work with any pattern you have made. Basically the imported patterns using stl product large file size ptn files. This will help those most.
