This is a 47" x 28" carving of Mt. Rainier I am about done with. The picture is supplied by the customer. It still needs some shading but I am about done. The letters have reflective beads on them to be reflective at night. This going to their house at lake Tahoe.
Thank you Rick for your suggestions on painting in layers and colors.
I am so excited I am starting a painting class on Monday that will teach me about blending and using a painting wheel. I have one , looked at it but never really used it.

Wow.. that looks great! I'd love to see a picture at night too to see how those beads reflect the flash.

Wow Tom, That's a pretty impressive sign that you've done. How much time was involved to this point ?

Thanks everyone for the awesome comments.
Here are two pictures at night with a flash. It is had to tell but reflects nice with the white behind the beads.
Practice sure improves my jointing and painting. It took three separate carves about 3 hours each, I always carve in draft.
I guess I have put 14 hours in this project including carving.

Wow! You are getting better with each painted sign. How easy was it to make the reflective beads adhere? Any information on how they will hold up out of doors?

When you make your joint do you carve to the edge or cut it after carving is complete? do you use a bisket joiner for stronger joints?

Thanks my friends! I am having fun too!
Sharon you started me on this painting path thanks for expertise The paint for the letters is applied thick and I use a spoon to put on the beads, as I paint each letter. Every few letters I lay a piece of paper on them and lightly roll it. This sign is clear coated with Cabot spar varnish. I started using beards last year and they seem to be holding up. I pore off the excess so very little is wasted.
cnc carver, I back these large signs with exterior plywood so I don't use biscuits.

Nice looking sign, Eddie. I will have to try your carving in draft multiple times and compare to one time Best carve.
