View Full Version : Belts drifting?

I noticed during my last carve that the sand paper belts have begun to drift slightly. The edges are still on the tension rollers and do not look to have a rounded edge. I have stopped the carving for now but have a sign to make. I have searched for a fix or adjustment however I can only find how to replace the belts. The belts do not look bad nor are the torn. Is there an adjustment or is my only option to replace the belts or remove the the belt trays and readjust the current belts. I want to fix the issue before the belts break due to the drifting.

Thanks!!

Dwayne

It's happened to me before and as far as I know, you remove the trays and readjust the belts. Good time to stop, I've had it roll under enough to lose contact with the brass roller and end up with other problems. Greg

Let's start with this link. It also drives to a 2nd link.

The sand paper rollers need not be removed and put in a vise to re-center the belts. Cut two 3/8" diameter approximately 0.8" long pieces of metal or hardwood. These two pieces can be wedged between the spring shafts and the edges of the outfeed table (see pictures below). The cam action of lifting the outfeed table pushes on the spring shafts and releases the tension on the sand paper belt. The belt can easily be slid back to center. (Make sure you unroll the edge of the belt if if has rolled up.) The same procedure works on the front and rear belts. http://forum.carvewright.com/images/misc/paperclip.png Attached Thumbnails http://forum.carvewright.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=20906&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1236309622 (http://forum.carvewright.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=20906&d=1236309622) http://forum.carvewright.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=20907&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1236309643 (http://forum.carvewright.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=20907&d=1236309643)

I thought my old hands were arthritic... but I can squeeze the rollers together enough to move 'em.
