Was working a new design and thought I would run a test carving to see how it would turn out.

Here is the result - I still need to seal it, just finished the painting.

I usually do my test carvings on draft, LOL! That is awesome! Is the gold color paint? What paints are using? And how do you get them so laser sharp?

You do your test carves on really nice wood. Good work!

@badbert

Just carved it with in optimal setting, but during the set up I setup I tweak the bit settings as well on each pattern to get the best carve from it. I do a test carve on a smaller scale most of the time to make sure I have the pattern and detail where I want it before I enlarge the carving. This is an 11 inch diameter plaque.

The paint is an Elmer's paint pen - Metallic Gold and Metallic Silver - both fine tip. Walmart, and most craft stores carry them or one similar.

Stain is Minwax Red Oak

This was carved on a scrap piece of pine I had that I had to plane down from a previous carve that had a problem half way through the carving.

Great work. I wish my finished signs would look as good as your test carvings. :)

Don't you love it when a plan comes together?

That is a very "tight" looking carve and is well laid out, carved, and finished. You certainly nailed the tri-fecta with that one.

Well done
Lawrence

Very nice, I believe it passed the test.

I second that pass grade on the test. Even on a curve that would be on the top.
