View Full Version : Board thickness issue?

Trying to run a new project and keep getting error at end of set up telling me the cut is deeper than the board thickness. First off, I have had cuts go all the way through a board before with no problems. Second, the cut is only set for .745" and the board thickness (in designer) is set for .75 and the actual piece is 3/4" thick. So not sure why I am getting this message. Any suggestions?

We need to see the MPC and also know what item is giving the abort.

Just posted it.

I see 3 Rectangles, 2 at your depth and the last at .25 deep.... One rectangle would work... The Actual Board might be a little on the thin side.... Causing the problems.... IS the .25 depth a error or a design feature...?

Thinking this project would look good at .25 deep or even .5.... Leaving just a skin.... You will be able to see through it... Letters might break off.... Some Draft would help too as the sides of the letters might be rough....

AskBud will chime in soon...

The .25 is on purpose. The result I am after is the upper 2/3 (aprox) will just have the letters showing and the background will be gone. The lower 1/3 of the background will still there there to hold the letters together like a base to the sign. Does that make any sense?
And the problem comes up after loading the 1/6 carving bit and it goes through its set up routine. It will touch the bit plate on the right side with no problem. It will touch the board on the left side fine. But then it goes to the right side of the board and goes down to the sliding stop and back up and then the error comes.

I think you will find that your name is a pattern rather than a Text.

Is the picture the design you are looking to accomplish?

If so - I tweaked the design a bit - changed the depth to .74, then pierced the areas.

Second what kind of chuck are you using? You may not be getting the require depth needed when the bit is being measured

Chief that is exactly what I was going for. Thanks for the help.

Chief that is exactly what I was going for. Thanks for the help.

Let us know how it works out. - the pierced setting gives a .758 depth to go through the board, so if the board is a true 3/4(.75) inch thick you should be good.

And to answer someone elses question... I have the original chuck still. I have two carving bits and the first one I tried it with I noticed was a little longer than the other. So I tried the second one with the same result. So looks like I might need to adjust the bits. How long should the bit be below the QC mounting adapter?

There is no standard as long as you use the same bit that was part of the setup. It can be any length.... To a point.... IF you installed the Other Bit the machine would come up with a length error and give you a chance to measure the bit as in a Re Find then pass the 2nd time and cut normally.

Nice Design... I see where the .25 comes in....

Is the guide plate pulled over to the edge of the board? The bit needs to touch that to find the thickness.

Its going fine but not done yet. Having to do it in stages. Its nearly a 12 hour run so I have to pause it and restart. Should finish up tomorrow.

I am getting ready to help a student make their own guitar body and want to put a swirl similar to liquid guitars on the upper corner. I can not find the swirl button that used to be with the draw tools. How can I make the "Swirls"?

How do I start a new Thread?

I will have to think about the swirl, but the new thread is easy. For this question, go the the techniques department of the forum and click on Start New Thread. Be sure to label it.
