Help with this pattern

This pic was given to me by a friend to carve for him on a board, however I am horrible with patterns. I tried to do some work with it with pattern editor and paint.net, but again I am an idiot when it comes to this. Any advice on what to do to make it cleaner. The pic is not very good quality once you expand it but small it looks good.

Looks better than what I had. Mine was way too blurry. Now I guess I have to get this thing made. Thanks.
