I've finished my first lithopane out of 1/2 corian and it turned out beautifully, however, here is my problem. I made a display box out of 1/2 mdf to layout my angle cuts and datto front to accept the corian on my table saw. I was wondering if someone could instruct me on how to provide a light source. What is the best way to light it. Standard light buld, Christmas lights or something else. With such a confinded space is there a problem with heat? etc. Thanks a million John

Look at LED lights and standard bulbs will get very hot..

John, I use LED's that I get off eBay. I buy them on a reel and I think there are like 300 of them. They have to be used in groups of 3 and they run on 12 volts DC. Here is a link that shows what I use. http://s881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/CarverJerry/Lightbox%20for%20Lithopanes/ Hopes this helps you out.

Lowes sell a led kit call PUCK lighting, they are low heat and can be used in small areas
This is what I used on my lithopane project.

I use a candalopra base led bulb from Costco ( 3 bulbs for 19.00) and a prewired socket form Lowes. They come all made up including a rocker switch. All you need is a 1 inch holr inyour base to slide it into. Work well Ross

is this 1/2 inch corian or 1/4? I've made all my lithos out of 1/4 so that it doesn't need much light (or a deep carving) to view clearly. I've done some with LEDs from here and they are very good and VERY bright

I've also used the "candle shaped" CFLs in some lithos and once they warm up they look quite nice too. The surface of the corian gets warm, but not hot.
