into a piece of cherry as a gift for his girlfriend. This was a very quick project and overall took less than an hour and a half to dimension the lumber, design the piece, carve it out, and put a finish on it. By far the hardest part was gettting a good smooth ogee on the endgrain of the cherry as it burns just by looking at it. THe black is Marsh's spray ink and the finish is 3 coats of semi-gloss lacquer (2 coats, sand with 400 grit, one more top coat... smooth as a baby's bottom)
Thanks for looking
Lawrence
