Hi,

I know this must have come up before but I can't really find anything using the search function. I wanted to know if anyone has used another manufacturers 60 and 90 degree v-bits with the Carvewright machine? LHR's bits seem high quality but they are quite a bit more than other v-bits so I'm looking for a way to save a few bucks but still get a quality bit.

And also note that they have the Shoulder or what ever it is called that prevents too big of a bite.... the extra orange area behind the cutter.

I have been buying them from other sources for a while. I have a Rock.

This is by far my favorite bit... stays sharp (and easy to touch up), and cuts so fine a line it is sometimes unbelievable

http://www.amazon.com/CMT-858-501-11-Cutting-Diameter-16-Inch/dp/B000P4JOOY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1343007700&sr=8-2&keywords=cmt+60+degree+bit

the 1/2 inch shank bit (the pic in the link above is the 1/4 shank) fits perfectly.

I use the same one and love it too! Use it with all my medium and small carving

I should have mentioned that I also have The ROCK so I can use any standard router bit.

Thanks, Lawrence. Do you also use the 90 Degree CMT bit? The savings over the LHR bits is pretty good so I think I might go with these. I like the 1/2 shank over a 1/4".

haven't used it-- I'll be honest, I use a 60 degree bit for just about EVERYTHING... I just like the fineness of the cut and I usually carve small lettering.

And since we are talking V bits.... IF you design Centerline Text in V90 but cut it with a V60 you will get a "Y" fork on the end of each letter stroke.

So a "I" letter would look like 2 "Y"'s one up side down on top of each other.

I was wondering the same thing last night but didn't see this thread before I placed an order for some bits made by Whiteside. I like the looks of the CMTs and know they are good bits.

I placed an order with http://www.woodworkersworld.net/v_groove_bits.shtml very late last Saturday night for the Whiteside bits made right here in the USA. Just received them in the mail and I am impressed with their appearance. I got 1/2" shank 60 degee for 19.90, 90 degree for 19 and a 1/4" shank triple flute 60 degree for 15.70. Shipping is free for orders over $29
Can't wait to carve a sign. Will report back as soon as I do.
