Ok, here's another couple to test... one is a pattern made using centerline and 3d designer - can anyone change the text/patterns on either of these post? Hopefully you can't, but I'm just making sure.

Point being, we can make patterns using centerline text that will then become part of an STL which can then be made into a pattern to share. When you carve it it will carve as a raster and not centerline, but it will at least carve even if all you have is the designer software.

I've got to say, this new software is AWESOME... an I've not even really started playing with it yet. The ability to do actual 2-sided bowl shapes with carves in them is pretty cool. This one for example, will be as a pan from the top, but with a little playing I was able to get it as a carving that will actually look like a fully carved out (both sides) gold pan.

I've made an MPC trying to share this-- can someone please try this file out? It is too bigh (1.77 mb) to put here, but I put it on google drive (this is my first time using it and I'd love feedback on if it works for you)
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByJj2suDWiFVYjlnbXZDaW1wNWs/edit

please note that this pattern has been set up for playing around on the programming side of things... I haven't set tabs properly etc. so I would not try and actually carve it yet.. I'm intending this for program experimentation only at this point.

yep- did it look like a 2 sided pan? This should also work fine for those without the 3d tools as neither side is the puffing... they are both patterns --- VERY cool...

Thanks-
Lawrence

awesome, thanks!

Things are going to get fun around here in a hurry methinks.... this new software brings a whole new level of patternmaking to the table....

That is so true. I have been going back to old patterns and seeing what I can do now.

Lawrence,
I was able to successfully download and put in designer. As you expected I was unable to change text or select pattern. By the way, very nice pattern.

I'll say this... the 3d software is VERY cool, and some of the other features of it and and the new 2d software really make the designer software POWERFUL...

Playing around for an hour or so got me fairly familiar with extrude and sweep... ofset is VERY useful too...

I can't wait for more tutorials to come out... I'm sure I'm missing out on some techniques. Once I get a grip on things I'll try to do a video or two myself too if y'all would like.
