Has anyone tried using Basswood on their CW, and if so
how did it work?

yes someone has i cant remember who but do a search for basswood he did an elk.

I use basswood quite regularly, as a matter of fact (my love is model scale wooden ships). I haven't tried it for heavy carving, however, as I'm not quite to that point, but will use first basswood and then European boxwood for some of the intriguite fancy frill work.

I used it for an elk. It came out very fuzzy. But then I discovered I used normal quality when uploading, so I will make another try with a higher setting (it was only $5.50 for a 9x12 blank, I have 3 more to use up).
Be aware that basswood is very prone to blotching when staining, so use a wood conditioner (which will cause it to stain lighter but more evenly).
