I finished carving my first project and getting ready to do the finish work. I'm really excited about this. I do have a question. The wood is cedar, in one spot there was a knot which has split some. What is the best way of fixing that?53899

I usually take some of the Saw dust. mix it with glue and put in the cracks. Be sure the glue is stainable

Great first project, I really like it. I also take some of the saw dust, mix in glue or epoxy.

Problem with cedar is that it is softer than anything you are gonna use to fill it with (that would give it any strength). You have to be carefull or the wood is going to sand away before your filler will. If the knot is still tight I would just use stainable wood filler, sand and finish. Once the finish has dried it shouldn't be going anywhere. BTW, beautifull sign, good work!

Nice work for your first project. It looks like it was built by a pro. I agree on fixing knot with sawdust and glue.

Thank you all for the encouragement and advice on the glueing. I've been cleaning all the fuzzies from around the letters and design next will be the knot. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

I have finally finished my project, well at least I'm at a point I'm satisfied with it. After a few failed tries of fixing the cracked knot I decided I like it.
Thanks for the advice and support.
