The following carvings were made in polycarbonate that is 8" x 10" x 0.093" thick. I used the CarveWright machine to cut an 8" x 10" x 0.095" deep relief in the center of a piece of poplar that is 18" x 9.25" x 3/4". The poplar holds the piece of polycarbonate securely enough with the use of a couple of brads pressed into the poplar, against the poly.
The reason for the relief being slightly lower than the thickness of the polycarbonate is that the polycarbonate has a protective film on both sides. The down side, you leave the film on, the up side (facing the cutter) has the film removed.
One thing to remember is that when you are designing your project you should set the board Thickness at the thickness of the material you are using, in this way, you can see if you are through cutting. The software will alert you that your thickness choice will need to be jigged, you already know that, just continue on!
