I want to carve a snail shell on a cedar board measuring 10" x 11". When I try the Spiral Tool, I get a spiral that's 10 lines. I want a spiral that's only 4 or 5 lines. So how do I increase the distance between each line to reduce the number of lines?

It's not configurable.

That being said, I managed to 'break' it and make a larger one. Maybe this will help.

That might be just the ticket. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Many thanks.

How did you do that! I have played around and get nowhere. When I break, I just get two smaller spirals which behave the same. (If you want to see something really wild, connect the centers (or end points) of two spirals with a line segment.)

If you want to see something really wild, connect the centers (or end points) of two spirals with a line segment.

Or connect both ends of one spiral with a pair of straight lines, then remove the center vertex... or connect the ends of a sine with 2 lines, then convert the lines to arcs, and remove the center vertex... the results are unpredictable.

A follow-up question: I've been able to "flip" any patterns I've used, but that doesn't seem to work with the spiral tool. I would like to flip the spiral. Is there a work-around?

The vertical flip seems to work but the horizontal does not. The spiral is a quirky thing.

Edit: if the start and end points are lined up horizonally, it will flip vertically. If the points are lined up vertically, it will flip horizontally. If the points are not lined up, no flip.

That works. Fantastic. Thank you!
