View Full Version : 3/16" Carving Bit Kudos in Foam

Carved some good old 2" pink foam insulation. Last Fall I did some with the 1/16" carving bit - turned out OK, but lots of fuzzies - and I mean LOTS.

That's OK, because after brushing it with a stiff paint brush, hitting it with a heat gun took care of the rest.

However, I did the attached last weekend with the 3/16" carving bit, and a 60 degree v bit for the text. Carved on normal mode.

The signs are two sided, meant to sit atop two 6" columns for her graduation party. First pic is right outta the machine, the second is after removing the extra 4" from each end, and with wood strips glued to the bottom edge for mounting to the columns. Finished sizes are 14"x20".

There was virtually no clean-up - almost NO fuzzies, etc.

Forgive the pics, the colors are kinda goofed - this is good old insulation from the big box store.

I was curious to see how the bigger bit did regarding detail - it did great.

Watching the thread about the new 1/8" bit, I thought I'd post this.
