I can't get the "demo software" to load. It just locks up in the "loading" stage. I'd appreciate any help in this area. I have more than enough disk space and memory and am running XP Pro. I haven't recieved a reply from Carvewright "yet".
I've read a lot of unfavorable letters from people concerning this product. I realize it's a new product and probably got more response than they anticipated, as it's out of stock at Carvewright and Sears. At least they have had a chance to try it out.......I can't even get the "free" stuff to work! I'm not giving up but..... It does make me a bit apprehensive

This sounds more like a permissions issue with your PC than with Designer. Are you installing on an admin account? Do you have any anti-virus software running in the background (or any other programs for that matter). These are a few good places to start looking, I'm sure CW will have more.

Thanks Jeff. I did disable my anti virus and I'm installing the software under a "all users" setting with nothing runing in the background. It still hangs up during the "loading" stage crtl alt del says the program is not responding. Any more tips would be helpful, Thanks :)

In the past I have downloads corrupted.
After I deleted the file and redownloaded it would install.
Just a thought.

Thanks Herb
I've re-downloaded, re-installed and still have the problem. I've "saved" th file to disk as well as "run" the file rom the web site. I've had "corrupted" files also..that's why I deleted and re installed about 5 or 6 times. It's gotta be something simple....I'll stuble upon it eventually.:)

I'm not sure how aplicable this might be, but if you had a glitch with your first download, there may be a temp file somewhere that is interfereing with any subsequent download.
Alternatively, are you familliar with the "System Restore" route ? If so, I'd go that way, before yet another attempt at downloading the prog.
Regards and good luck,
John

Clell - you say it installs but doesn't open.
Could you tell me what indications you've got that it is installed - like does it appear in the "programs" folder on the C drive in Windows Explorer?
Have you got a short cut on the desktop ?
Given that you have all of these, I assume none of them work.
If you go to the Carvewrite folder in Programs, and double click on gui.exe what happens ?

I have the desktop icon...it's in my programs folder.....the gui icon in the programs folder responds the same way as the desktop icon....the Carvewright desktop opens and the logo window opens with the "loading" message. After that it just has the hourglass with nothing happening...after several minutes I tried to close the program...in response the task manager opens and says the program is not responding. And that's where I am at this time:)
Thanks Clell

Clell - I've posted the symptoms to another forum that I'm on which specialises in this sort of problem.
Nearly bedtime here, so it may be tomorrow before I get back to you.

Clell - have you made any progress yourself ?

I have a problem here in that the subscribers to the other forum I mentioned are based in UK, so it's a problem trying to download the demo without a US Zip code !

Do you have access to another pc with xp on it that you could transfer your download to, to test ?

As you might guess, I'm struggling a bit :(
Regards
John

Do you have any anti-spyware software running on your pc?
Anything like Ad-Aware, Pest Patrol or similar? Some of these programs can prevent programs from accessing your Windows registry to make the required registry entries they need to run with. Having written and sold software applications I can tell you that it is difficult at best to test your software on every possible user pc configuration that is out there. 95% of the time something else the user has installed or configured on their pc is the culprit.

I have a sort of similar problem on one machine I admin at work, does funny things trying to install anything. Seems that the default NTFS permissions can get screwed up. So that when you install the new directory(s) created in c:\program files\... do not by default have the same permisiion level as the installer account (admin). That being said I have not found a good solution to the problem.
