I carved the parts for this box over a year ago from patterns that jpaluck posted here. There were some problems with the carve and I set it aside. I decided that motherhood comes with it's own share of imperfections so I put it together and finished it for my wife. Cherry with lacquer finish.

Looks great! Did you use hinges on the lid? what type of wood did you use? I may have to give it a try myself.

Thanks guys! WW--The patterns are in the pattern sharing depot...just scroll through the attachments and look for "Heart Lock Box"...you'll see the Lid jpg, and two different side panel MPC's. Jerry--I didn't use hinges on this one--the lid lifts off. It's carved in curly cherry.

Is it me or are the Rabbits on the wrong side of the pattern?

LOL--I have to laugh at myself. I didn't remember any Rabbits, just Birds, so I had to go look! Then it dawned on me--I assume that you're talking about the Rabbets at the end of some of the side pieces. I didn't use them, I mitered the corners. (What a difference a letter makes!) ;-)

Is the lid available any where.

All I find is a JPG not MPC. I just check again and still couldn't find a MPC. Are you sure the MPC is there.

Try here guys.... the depth map was uploaded to this forum, but the resulting MPC was too big so it was loaded outside the forum with a link...

I just carved the top and each side as separate MPC's, although I did cut all the pieces sequentially from the same piece of wood so the grain matched going around the box. I mitered the corners, but had considered using corner posts of contrasting wood as the top lends itself to that as well.

That is a fine job- it looks intricate without looking too fussy, and your workmanship is apparent.

Well done,
Lawrence
