Bird House Siding

My next CW project is a bird house. I would like to make sides of the house look like siding. Tried to use the rectangle tool and use a pattern but the patterns all have a design in them, not just a simple ramp. Also tried using 3 rectangles, each smaller and deeper and then set them on top of each other but decided that would be a nightmare with approximately 5 sets per inch and 6 - 8 inches of height. I saw some threads about using paint.net and making an out of focus image overlay. That looked just as bad. Are there any other methods?

Maybe something like this--- I tried 4 .063 x .250 rectangles per Inch,
with the Snap to Grid Tool, then save it as a 8" x 14" Pattern to cut the walls as needed.
