Got a request from a gentleman in Maine who does hand carvings. He wanted to see how the CarveWright would do for reproducing his carvings. If he likes the results he might be purchasing a machine.

I agree! Great job. Just out of curiosity, how long was the scan?

Great job Floyd! I guess that I am going to have to try to use the scanning probe. I have had it over ayear and never used it. I do use pattern editor software all the time but never used the probe.

Floyd... I'm like tierman in that I have had my probe since last years convention and never used it. And it is projects like yours that might prompt me to take it out of the box. Great Job.

I had a wood carver rent from me for awhile and we made castings and 2 part epoxy duplicates of some of his work to scan so as not to scratch the original. The carves came out very good. This one of Mother Teresa is about 10" tall.

Howdy Paul,
Thanks for the stop by! If I did not have the plastic tips for the probe I might not have tried this. They really help to protect the surface of the object being scanned.

Sad to say.

I have had the probe for 5 years and never used it.

I keep saying or thinking about getting it out and doing something with it, yet still have not.

When I see what you did Floyd with the probe, it makes one want to get to it.

I just got my scanning probe out and was reading the instructions. The instructions tell me to contact carvewright for plans for the sled. Is the sled for the probe different than what we would use for carving out a small pattern. If so, does anyone have instructions for the construction of the scanning probe sled?
I have been requested to replacate some rosettes out of Azek for a house restoration and want to get started as soon as possible. Thanks for your help and advise.

Gene,

Trying looking at these http://www.carvewright.com/2010CWweb/learn/probevideo.php

adding one more http://www.carvewright.com/2010CWweb/service/Manuals/Probe_reference_guide.pdf

The scanning sled needs to have raised sides to get the head and rollers above the object being scanned...

OH YEA! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
