As I'm working other Deiger, imnoticing that when I drop images onto the wood, they're perfectly clear for a split second (lovely in fact) and they they lose their detail. Am I doing something wrong?

After you place the pattern on the board set the "bit optimization" to best. It also might be how you have the render setting set.
