I am carving a sign and it carved ok, but when I put in the 90 degree V bit it does not even touch the wood. It acts like it is carving but not. Any ideas Please Help Jim

Any ideas Please Help JimIt sounds as if you are trying to place Centerline text in a carve region. To do this, you must apply Conforming Vectors to the centerline (it would also be applied in some other vector cuts, if you wish them to follow the pattern or contour of your raster carves.

Centerline (CL), by itself, is designed to carve on the top surface of the board. Conforming Vectors was developed to allow us to be able to carve CL within the newly raster carved areas. Conforming Vectors is a $50.00 add-on that is well worth the cost.

Ask Bud could be right but this could really be a CLASSIC the "BIT did NOT touch the Bit Plate"...

I bet if you carve the project again and this time pay attention to the BIT TOUCH of the Bit Plate you might get a good carve as long as the bit actually touches the Bit Plate.... Since the V90 is Shorter than the next longer bit.... Carving Bit... You MAY have DIRTY Rails or DIRTY Z Belt Cogs that prevented the shorter bit from touching the bit plate...

SO.... If the Computer saw the Bit stop a 1/2 inch ABOVE the Bit Plate then it thinks the Bit is LONGER than it really IS and will NOT reach the Wood....

Hence... I preach that Everyone MUST get in the habit of watching the Bit Plate Touch Every TIME.... 2 touches Good No Touch or 3 touches BAD.....

We can jump through hoops about conforming vectors but it looks like Pilot Error...

AL is a 100% correct. Watch the the Bit so you see it touch the Bit Plate.

I do that now all the time. That way if I do have a problem, I do know what went on with the Bit Plate.

52710Another method for placing text in carve regions

1) Draw a carve region square 0.125” deep.
2) Place one or two letters of text next to the square.
3) While all the text is highlighted, click on outline pattern(s).
4) Click on “select bit” and click on 1/16” ball nose.
5) Change depth from 0.031” to 0.125” + 0.031 for a total of 0.156”.
6) Drag this text outline over the 0.0125” square. The text is now 0.31” deep at the bottom of the 0.125” square.
7) Now delete the original text.

If you want a script that looks like Centerline, download script fonts from www.dafont.com (http://www.dafont.com/) and after they are extracted, copy them to C:\Windows\fonts. The attached mpc file shows results of this procedure.

Be sure you carve the carved region and place the centerline text in the same MPC to make conforming vectors work. The machine has to know where the surface is and can only know that if it has just carved it.
