photo editing

My computer crashed last week so I'm looking for a free photo editing program that is similar to " MICROSOFT PITCURE IT 10 " it was simple and easy to use but will not run with windows 7.
I have paint.net but I need a little more. I also lost all the projects I had designed during the winter but, what would life be like without anything going wrong?

I bet life would be better if you got your hands on a program that works just as good as photoshop but you didn't have to pay a dime for it.

Thanks for the gimp link. I've had gimp pop up when looking for photo editing but have never tried it. The program I used before I lost my computer wont run with windows 7.
