does anyone know of a good free graphics software i can work with to make and draw my own patterns.

Yes GIMP is a lot like PhotoShop with none of the cost. They have tutorials on their web site.

I use GIMP all the time now because it is easier to do some things than PhotoShop.

If you download from thier site they dont try to have you add other software to your download. But make sure you find the installer software to download.

I have PhotoShop (PITA). I use for most of my drawings Inkscape, it's free and very easy to use and more powerful than I could have imagined. Very useful for "cleaning up" borrowed clipart and its a dream for vectoring.
