Can anyone help me figure out how to make gears?

There's several good methods in 3D packages that you could then render out, but I'm not aware of any easy methods in photoshop or the like. Not familiar with Corel, but there might be an easy method in there by doing a circle with enough control points, selecting every other set of 2 points and scaling them out from the center.

You may be better off simply finding a real gear you currently have, sitting it on a sheet of paper and taking a pic of the gear with a digital camera and contrasting and cleaning it up in photoshop.

thanks, What I did was scan a drawing that was the corect size, then put it into the program as a picture. Now I cant isolate and cut out the gear, every picture I put in, it makes a border around. So when I try to cut it out everything in the border gets cut out. Am I putting it in wrong?

Once it's a clean image of a black gear on a white background (or vice versa) it should work as a basic heightmap. If you're just scanning in a line drawing then it's going to just use the line you've drawn as a recess in the board, you'll need to "fill in" your line drawing with a paint bucket type fill tool.

Is that what you mean?
