I am making the Naked Clock project and when carving the pinions, hubs, hands, and other parts board, I noticed that the only parts that carved thru the board were the hubs... the gears and hands didn't carve thru the board.  They lack carve thru by at least 1/8 ".  Is this the way the cut should been? It doesn't seem right!!!  I can fix it by either planning the board down or sanding it down, but I can't see any reason that the design would have been created that way! I also noted that the "frame" board layout and cutout is different from the PDF that was included in the Project download, so I am wondering if there was any other changes that I should be aware of... My real problem is I don't know who to talk to or which forum section to post these questions to find out!!  Thanks again for all the help I have been getting.  Thank God for the forum help!

The project designer should be along soon to answer your question.

Well, the project designer still has not shown up ... Does anyone know what the dimensions are for the two protrusions on lower side of the frame(the other side has three protrusions) I just need the total width of the two protrusions as this "naked Clock project download" didn't cut them off. I begin to think that I somehow got a bad download, but the rest of the parts on that board cut Ok. of course this is the board with the altered layout from the downloaded PDF. Wish I knew who the project designer is, so I could talk to them instead of battling away here. Am I the only one here that has bought this project?

I'm the project designer.

Those parts are made using a 1/2" thick board. However, many suppliers, such as Home Depot, sell what they call 1/2" boards that are actually 7/16" thick. I included two mpcs, one for true 1/2" boards, and one for 7/16" boards. I need to know the actual thickness of the board that you are using, then we can go from there.

Send me a pm and I'll send you contact information if you would like to get in touch directly.

Thanks for your help Dick!! Great project and I am enjoying it immensely so far! I did what you suggested and got the dimensions I needed. I think that this problem was another Mac problem(using Lion X) as I did use it to upload to the memory card....I will do another clock soon using my PC using XP and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again for your help and I can't wait for the new clock to come out!

I had several posts sitting in "Moderate Threads". I got those approved today.

Part no. 80-12 for $25 and I received them 3 days after phone order.... regards not cutting out the clock parts all the way... I think that my board was not a consistent thickness as I fabricated two more and didn't have any problem...
hope this helps!

I sometimes get boards that are a bit thicker than .75". I then set the thickness in Designer to .78" or whatever. It generally doesn't hurt when a true .075" board is used. For the nominal 1/2" material that I get from Home Depot, which is actually 7/16" (.4375"), I've been setting Designer to .45" and getting consistently good cuts.

1.25" from the back of the frame. It's not a critical dimension.

Yours is the second report that I've gotten on this problem. I'm guessing it's because these cuts are close to the edge of the board. Usually there is a warning message. I'm not sure if the software changed.
